Nature-Based Solutions for Water Security and Climate Adaptation

There is growing evidence that traditional interventions for the reduction of hydro-meteorological risks (e.g., floods, droughts, heatwaves, storms, coastal storm surges, tropical cyclones, landslides, wildfires) have focused on grey infrastructure measures which are often limited in their approach and effects. A new response towards disaster risk reduction, water security, and resilience to climate change, which has a potential to be more effective and sustainable than traditional measures, is currently passing under the name of Nature-Based Solutions (NBS).
The Conference
This conference aims to bring together academic communities and practitioners to exchange information, experiences and research results on a variety of aspects concerning Nature-Based Solutions for Water Security and Climate Adaptation.
Organisers
The Conference is organised by RECONECT network, a project financed by the European Commission (www.reconect.eu). The Conference is also supported by the International Water Association (IWA) and International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR).

Mikser Festival 2024 - Microtactics

Mikser Festival returns for its 13th edition, and chooses to deal with “Microtactics”. From May 23 to 25 in the Dorćol Platz complex and Dereta space in Belgrade (SRB), the Mikser Festival will – through a series of talks, art installations, performances, concerts, films, and workshops, with, as always, exceptional guests and participants showcasing changes and innovations for which, as a society, we cry out for – present possible, seemingly small, but decisive steps by which each of us (can) change the world!
The Mikser Festival 2024 conference “Micro Talks” will be a meeting place for brave individuals and innovators from different spheres of life and disciplines that are key to finding new approaches – and tactics that effectively solve contemporary social and environmental challenges.
Numerous talent platforms for young creatives such as Ghost Project, Young Serbian Designers, Young Balkan Designers, or Black Box are proof that Mikser finds its main foothold in working with young creators.
Listening to their voice, as well as the voice of a large number of local and regional partners and collaborators, Mikser Festival continues to gather brave young creatives.

Educational programs and creative workshops for children and teenagers will open horizons for increasingly necessary professions in the field of sustainable development and modern technology that do not yet exist.

Sister Projects Cluster Meeting in Brussels

Sister Projects Cluster meeting on Brussels during their common participation in the event Research Perspectives on the Health Impacts of Climate Change. In brief the concept of the conference is summarized below.

Climate change is a global existential challenge that has introduced unprecedented pressures on the planet which are already translating into significant consequences for human health.
Research and innovation (R&I) are key in delivering evidence and tools to understand, prevent and reduce the health impacts of these rapidly unfolding threats. However, there are numerous knowledge gaps that need to be filled and innovation opportunities that remain untapped.
There is also growing momentum and interest at the global level to increase coordination towards a forward-looking research agenda in climate change and health that will be capable of delivering robust evidence for the necessary adaptation and mitigation actions and policies.

PEOPLE AND PLANET - FROM THEORY TO SOLUTIONS

Science and practice for human and planetary health meet at the 2021 European Green Capital, Lahti, Finland.

This Conference will bring together researchers, decision makers and stakeholders from the environmental, health and other sectors. Appropriately, it will take place in Lahti, the European Green Capital for 2021. It follows on from The Helsinki Planetary Health Conference in 2019 and will continue in the spirit of the Helsinki Declaration in emphasizing the urgency for action (links below).

The Conference will focus on how human health and the health of the planet are closely connected and what can be done to protect and enhance both. There can be no doubt that decisions and actions are needed: Climate change, biodiversity loss and most recently the Covid-19 pandemic are profoundly changing the planet and the way people live on it.

Pragmatic solutions to prevent, or more often mitigate, the effects on planetary health are essential. Sustainable food production, water management, urban planning, understanding the health benefits of nature and informed citizens are all fundamental in moving pertinent agendas forward.

With these global challenges firmly in mind, the aims of this conference are:
1. To discuss the scientific challenges of transdisciplinary research in environmental and medical sciences.

2. To present solutions supporting public health and respecting planetary boundaries

City of Palermo Training Event

The first euPOLIS communication, dissemination and training event of focus groups for the city of Palermo will be held online on 119.07. 2021 on the Google Meet platform (in Italian language only), from 10.00 to 12.30. The Villa Turrisi in Palermo is a case study area of the euPOLIS project. It is located in the western part of the city of Palermo, in a plain once named “Conca D’oro” (gold basin), named after the fruit’s colour, due to the large number of citrus trees present here. Today, most of the agricultural lands surrounding the old city have been built up. The building surrounding the area covered by this study is mainly residential and is characterized by poor architectural quality. The building expansion of the 1960s, in addition to sacrificing the greenery, also razed a large part of the ancient agricultural estates, from the 18th and 19th centuries, owned by the nobles and their beautiful manor houses.
