Our partners, CDP and Geosystems Hellas, have just returned from the dynamic plenary meeting of the OCEANIDS Project in the Azores—a gathering brimming with innovative ideas and a shared commitment to transforming coastal cities and ports for climate resilience and biodiversity regeneration.

This event was a fantastic opportunity to deepen the collaboration between OCEANIDS and the euPOLIS Project. By bringing together expertise from both initiatives, we’re exploring how Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) methodologies and digital tools—developed within euPOLIS—can directly inform and enhance the planning, adaptation, and regeneration efforts at OCEANIDS pilot sites.

The challenges faced by both inland and coastal environments are increasingly interconnected, including urban health and well-being, climate adaptation, biodiversity conservation, and social inclusion. Integrating NBS into the fabric of port-city interfaces not only addresses environmental needs but also empowers local governance, fosters citizen science, and encourages true co-creation with stakeholders. Both projects champion these values, recognizing that systemic change is only possible through inclusive, participatory approaches.

What’s particularly exciting is the cross-fertilization happening between these EU-funded projects. By clustering activities and sharing knowledge, we’re unlocking scalable, adaptable, and systemic solutions that benefit cities, ports, policymakers, and citizens alike. This collaboration is a model for cross-sectoral learning and collective impact, essential for building resilient, inclusive, and nature-positive urban futures.

And here’s great news: the powerful digital tools and methodologies developed in euPOLIS are becoming freely available to everyone! Whether you’re a city planner, a local authority, a researcher, or an engaged citizen, you’ll soon be able to access and use these resources to drive positive change in your community.

We’re also proud to announce that our colleague, Afroditi Mathioudaki from CDP, will be presenting on the use of Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) for coastal adaptation at EURESFO 2025. This presentation will highlight how NBS, such as restoring natural shorelines and wetlands, provide effective and sustainable strategies to enhance climate resilience, protect biodiversity, and support communities in coastal cities. It’s a great opportunity to showcase the practical impact of the euPOLIS tools and methodologies in driving resilient and inclusive coastal adaptation across Europe.
